70th Week Light-line

The last week of the seventy in Daniel 9:24 is understood to be a very special Light-line.

1. Immanuel (Light)

In a stable in Bethlehem, the Light of the world entered our dark planet as a human babe. Just eight days after Jesus’ birth, the old saint Simeon “took [Jesus] up in his arms, and blessed God, and said, Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word: For mine eyes have seen thy salvation, Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people; A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of thy people Israel.” Luke 2:28-32.

2. Baptism of Christ (Cornea)

“In the gift of Christ all heaven was poured out” (Ye Shall Receive Power, 98.4). Whereas in the Flood, the whole world was baptized, in the wilderness of Judea, “all heaven” was baptized in the dirty waters of the Jordan. As the end-time Former Rain was poured out on 9/11/2001, so the Spirit descended as a dove upon Christ.

Direct from the throne issue the beams of [the Father’s] glory. The heavens are opened, and upon the Saviour’s head descends a dovelike form of purest light,–fit emblem of Him, the meek and lowly One.

Of the vast throng at the Jordan, few except John discerned the heavenly vision. Yet the solemnity of the divine Presence rested upon the assembly. The people stood silently gazing upon Christ. His form was bathed in the light that ever surrounds the throne of God. His upturned face was glorified as they had never before seen the face of man. From the open heavens a voice was heard saying, “This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.”  The Desire of Ages, 112.1-2.

As the Reform-line Pattern was empowered for us “upon whom the ends of the world are come” by the events of 9/11/2001,  as God’s Covenant was especially established with Noah just after the Flood (Genesis 9:11), so

It came to pass in those days, that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized of John in Jordan. And straightway coming up out of the water, he saw the heavens opened, and the Spirit like a dove descending upon him: And there came a voice from heaven, saying, Thou art my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. Mark 1:9-11.

3. Sermon on the Mount (Lens)

Divine light concerning Jesus as the Messiah experienced serious refraction at Christ’s Baptism, but the nature of His Messiahship and kingdom was brought into especial focus by His Sermon on the Mount. According to the Spirit of Prophecy,

In the Sermon on the Mount [Jesus] sought to undo the work that had been wrought by false education, and to give His hearers a right conception of His kingdom and of His own character… The truths He taught are no less important to us than to the multitude that followed Him. We no less than they need to learn the foundation principles of the kingdom of God.  The Desire of Ages, 299.3.

Just as on Mount Sinai God revealed the very foundation of His government, so on a mountain near the Sea of Galilee, Jesus taught “the foundation principles of the kingdom of God.” As the letter of the Law was emphasized on Mount Sinai, so a deeper dimension – the spirit of the Law – was emphasized in the Sermon on the Mount (See, for example Matthew 5:21-22, 27-28).

4. Crucifixion of Christ (Retina)

Light comes to the end of its Light-line journey as it strikes the eye’s retina.

When Jesus Christ died on the cross for mankind’s sin, could it not be said that the Light came to His end?

5. Pentecost (Image)

As the full outpouring of the Latter Rain in the Final Redemption Light-line reveals that history’s “image” event, so Pentecost – sacred history’s original Former Rain – marks the “image” event in the 70th Week Light-line.

The Spirit came upon the waiting, praying disciples with a fullness that reached every heart. The Infinite One revealed Himself in power to His church. It was as if for ages this influence had been held in restraint, and now Heaven rejoiced in being able to pour out upon the church the riches of the Spirit’s grace. And under the influence of the Spirit, words of penitence and confession mingled with songs of praise for sins forgiven. Acts of the Apostles, 38.1.

Then was there such a revelation of the glory of Christ as had never before been witnessed by mortal man. Education, 95.6.

6. Christ’s Final Ministry to the Jewish Nation (Action)

Through the Holy Spirit, Jesus cooperated with His disciples to bear the gospel message to Jerusalem and Judaea until the end of the 70th Week.

7. Jesus Stands in 34 A.D. (Deadline)

See Acts 7:54-60. “By the stoning of Stephen the Jews finally sealed their rejection of the gospel” (The Desire of Ages, 233.3). When Jesus stood in heaven, closing probation on the Jew’s status as God’s special people, it could be said that, for Judaism, the national repentance deadline of the 70th Week Light-line and of the “seventy weeks…determined” had been reached.

8. Destruction of Jerusalem (Results)

By stoning Stephen, “the Jewish people sealed their rejection of God’s mercy. The result was foretold by Christ in the parable. The king ‘sent forth his armies, and destroyed those murderers, and burned up their city.’ The judgment pronounced came upon the Jews in the destruction of Jerusalem and the scattering of the nation”  (Christ’s Object Lessons, 308.3).
